Flight 1549

It's things like this that give me goosebumps. I have been glued to my TV in my hotel room this morning, watching the story on Flight 1549 that successfully ditched in the Hudson river in New York Thursday evening. In training we are taught 'in theory' that is EXACTLY how a ditching should work, plane in tact, tail heavy, evacuate out onto the wings and jump into the rafts.

As the pilot is being hailed a hero (rightly so) I think the crew have also executed a successful evacuation and I cannot wait to read the report post investigation on whether the evacuation was prepared and how the crew reacted during the ditching,

Brilliant! Puts to test the theory that there cannot ever be a successful ditching. Good work guys!

From what I can gather, it seems to be 'semi prepared'... in that the pilot-not-flying gave a brace for impact command and that it seems they took an extra lap round to the river to give the cabin crew time to prep the pax as much as possible.

Big shout out to the pax who seemed to have stayed calm, rather than going off their heads and just jumping in the water. Seems the (cabin) crew did a fantastic job of crowd control on this one!

(Soall my grumbling about 25mins to get rafts off a 737 isn't too far off the mark, and do-able!) :p

I think it actually wasn't prepared apart from the captain's Brace command. Remember they were airborne for 3 minutes no more. Knowing crew would have to be in their jumpseat for take off, they probably stayed in their jumpseat until ditching. Most likely shouting commands and instructions from their door. IE lifejackets, brace position and evacuation commands once in the water. Kudos to the cabin crew and good effin job from the captain in command as well as his FO

I was in New York the day in happened. It was big news and when it first broke all we got word of was that a plane had crashed into the river.... Everyone immediate thought back to 9/11. Was out sightseeing on the water a few days after and it was quite amazing to see the all the water police, cranes and flashing lights.....
